“Twas the Night Before Winter Break” by Jennie Allison

Victory Place @ Coppell

Twas the night before Winter break,
And all through our school,
The hallways were quiet,
The weather was cool.

A few Turning Point learners,
Quietly toiled away,
At overdue courses,
They must finish today!  (OR ELSE)

The Compass learners,
With shirts white as snow,
Worked hard on exams,
To show what they know.

The educators were giddy,
At the thought of a break,
We’ve almost made it,
Not much more we can take.

All eyes watched the clocks,
As the minutes dragged on,
When, oh, when,
Will this day be gone?
Suddenly through the window,
Arose such a sight,
A big, yellow school bus,
Flashing its lights.

Mrs. Norman leapt from her desk,
Past Mrs. Williams she tore,
“It’s here, It’s here,
I’ll get the door!”

Mrs. Johnson and Porter,
Flew down the hall,
“We must tell the learners,
We must tell them all!”

Mr. Duke and Woods decided,
Who earned their day,
And dismissed Compass,
In an orderly way.

As Dr. Fielder,
the last problem worked,
Mrs. Muir flung open,
The door with a jerk.

Mr. Rodriguez yelled out,
“You can’t miss this ride,”
“I’ll grab the phones,”
Mrs. Allison cried.

Mrs. Ryan cheered,
“No time to waste,”
“Get on that bus,”
“You must make haste!”

When the dust settled,
The bus rolled away,
And by some miracle,
We had made it through the day.

We waved and hugged good-bye,
With smiles on our face,
Happy Holidays to all,
At Victory Place!
